About this performance
“Sign of the Times” begins with a lot of space and gradually opens into something much bigger. For this tenor saxophone performance, I kept the early phrases restrained and let the sound grow with the arrangement rather than treating every line at the same intensity. The melody is familiar, but it still asks for patience: long notes need shape, the breaths need somewhere to sit, and the later lift only works if the opening has been held back.
